Much to my initial disappointment(!) my daughter got engaged to an estate agent, although he's alright really!! But recently he told me something that surprised me. In the course of his daily work he naturally is in and out of other people's houses and he always insists on taking his shoes off at the door. As you can imagine this often means that he removes his shoes half a dozen or more times during every day.
He is extremely conscious that the look of his smart clean shoes are not undermined by unsightly stains or marks on his socks and so, remarkably, he buys a new pack of socks every weekend. Maybe that's extragavance or just a common theme for estate agents, I don't know, but here's the interesting bit.
His old but scarcely worn socks go into a carrier bag and when it's full, he takes them to a charity shop from where they are dished out to the homeless or maybe via St John's Ambulance service.
What a great idea! He is now also going to start donating his old underpants which can apparently be used to stuff pet cushions!
Throw nothing away, chaps!!
