What is Dual Channel compared to Single Channel?

If 2 sticks of 1GB of the same make and type of ram is used, how does the mobo know to run it in dual?

Do you need to turn something on cos Im using 2X 1GB OCZ Ram and all the programs I use say its running in single and not dual.

Lost, bald and confused ;)

Regards.

Your a gent, thank you :)

I have 2 banks one black and one yellow X2. I had one strip in the black and yellow of the first bank and now I've moved one strip to the other black its now saying dual.

Silly me :)

I found out by reading your first post and info as follows:

"In order to achieve this, two or more DDR/DDR2 SDRAM memory modules must be installed into matching banks, which are usually color coded on the motherboard. These separate channels allow each memory module access to the memory controller, increasing throughput bandwidth"

Thanks M8.
