Re-encoding DIVX/XVID movies

Hi, Is there any software i can use to re-encode divx/xvid movies, Basically i have a stanalone wireless media center box thingy and it doesnt play all my divx/xvids so i was wondering if i could re-encode the ones that don't play with another codec (both sound and video)

i normally use autogk to re-encode my divx/xvid to be compatitable with my standalone divx player.

just install ac3filter and ffdshow, get them both from free-codecs.com

should play anything then!

you may want to try this http://www.free-codecs.com/download/MPEG4_Modifier.htm
load your 'bad' avi into it, and click unpack, then save it somewhere (takes about 90secs total) and if it was jerky before, this will fix it !

Hi, sorry mate i didnt make my post clear, They work on my pc but not my stand alone media player with mpeg 4 support.

oh sorry, thought you meant media centre!

also, its worth looking for a possible firmware update for your player -sometimes they add new decoders to the chips

yep updated *** player, it is the new dlink player so only 1 update out for it so far.

my player support packed bitstream, so i dont need to "unpack". Just some xvid movies are encoded with Qpel and my player doesnt support that.

Probably not the most efficient method, but I'd be suprised if Virtual Dub can't do it.

Is it not possible to use WinAvi to convert to DVD then play in your media player or is a media player different from a DVD player?
