I want to re format my desk top. Its got a bit slow now with so much junk and unwanted programs so i dont mind formating as i have everything backed up which i want.

Am i best doing this by right clicking my c drive and format from there or should i use the xp disc? Also is it possible to format without losing internet settings, email settings addresses and our network settings.

I suppose just want the easiest way of doing a format keeping certain settings as im not much of a wiz on the pc. But if it all has to start from scrap, so be it!

Thanks.

Put in the XP Disk, make sure your DVD drive is the first in the boot sequence. Should come up with a message saying "Press any key to boot from CD". Press any key and it should start loading the installer. Delete the partition, make a new one and format it using NTFS quick. Pretty much clear sailing from there.

Im re starting with the xp cd in the drive, click onto install windows but then a message comes up saying cannot install windows xp because there is a newer version already intalled !!! :o

What am i doing wrong? should i just format by right clicking on the c drive and then click format
