Re-importing a car to UK

Hi Everyone,
I have unwittingly imported a car into the UK (a long story that I'll only relate if anyone is inetrested) and I need a valuation of the car for HMRC to calculate the taxes due. They have told me they won't accept an online valuation, but don't give any idea of where to get a proper one. The cars is a 2010 Honda Jazz. The local Honda dealership won't do an official one for me. If I google the problem I got online valuations and offers to buy it for next to nothing. Has anyone any idea how to find a valuation HMRC will accept?

I'd still appreciate some advice on where to get a valuation along with the witty badenage.
Incredibly, I've never brought over a car over from France before. I part exchanged my french reg car for a uk reg car with a dealer who sells both in France. He told me that all I had to do was send in the V5 and get it registered in my name. Then DVLA told me it had been permanently exported and I needed to re-register it. I did that and then they told me I couldn't re-register it until I had re-imported it as well. I tried to add it to my ToR1 form for all of the other stuff we are bringing back to live here permanently, but I hadn't owned it for 6 months so I couldn't do it that way. Hence the need for a valuation.
I've certainly been naive in trusting a car dealer who buys and sells cars going either way, but I could still do with some advice if anyone has some.

Have you tried the receipt you got when you bought the car?
 
I went through this BS with the Ministry of Finance when I imported an older car into Austria.

They state that you require an official valuation of the vehicle which must be verified by a licenced "Car Expert"

Well I could not even find one let alone pay for one, so I just shrugged my shoulders and they processed it anyway.

The only thing I had was the sale receipt which I did myself anyway :D


Do Parker's still produce an "Older Car Price Guide"? Or Glass's?

I think I'd also try whipping something up myself and send that :D

Are they really going to look in to it deeply? They probably process a lot of these daily and don't have the staff to be thorough.

Have you insured the car? If so it might be worth asking the insurance company if they can provide one.

If not, I'd be inclined to go to the nearest car dealer and see if they would be willing to help out in return for a drink. If that doesn't work maybe see if someone like WeBuyAnyCar can give you an offer that's actually written down.

EDIT: Or maybe there's an 'expert' on these forums who can look up how much the car is worth, and write it on some paper (ideally not in crayons) and sent it to you.

Can't you get a bill of sale from the dealer? That should count as a valuation.
