Please help as I'm stumped ..

bought a 2nd 7200.10 the other day - which I set to RAID with my other 7200.10 and installed Vista fine - but new 7200.10 has really bad chriping so has to go back :(

so un-raided them, took faulty drive out, and installed just to test - 2 old (Diamondmax 9) sata drives I had lying around and set them to RAID 0. So one RAID0 and one Seagate on its own - fine.

Installed Vista onto the Maxtors as RAID - but they are a bit noisey for my liking - so I'ld like to re-install Vista back on my Seagate drive... but no matter what I do it doesn't even show up as a drive during Vista installation...

I have an emergency version of Vista RC2 on a PATA drive on the JMicron (P5B Deluxe) which I Can boot to - and both bios and Vista RC2 can see the Seagate drive - I can format it, partiion it - un-partition it, make it active or un-active- but no matter what I do Vista installation won't see it ...

When I've tried installing vista I've disabled Jmicron controller, so as not to confuse the installation process, removed Sata cables from the Maxtor RAID setup so as not to confuse things, and tried both "RAID", and "IDE" modes for the SATA config for the Intel controller, but Vista installation just can't see the drive !

any ideas please as its driving me nuts !

thanks, Mark.

You might need to download the Intel controllers drivers and put them on a pen drive ready for the vista install.. - or wait till you get your second replacement seagate? :)

thanks for the reply - but tried that :(

it sees my RAID config without any drivers as well

its bizarre- its almost as it still thinks its half or a RAID

please anyone help this is driving me mad !!!!!

RE-installed Vista on RAID0 - with new noisey (and about to be RMA'd) 7200.10 plus old 7200.10 which I've been running Vista on for last year with no issues.

great - still dodgey - so new drive is being RMA'd.

but not matter what I do I cannot install Vista onto the old 7200.10 and I have no idea why.

After removing RAID array using Ctrl-I and going into the Intel RAID manager - then go into bios and set it to AHCI or IDE (no difference)

boot to install Vista CD - and voila one drive shows up -unfortunately its the new faulty one.

unplug power and Sata connector from new faulty drive - go into bios, set the old drive to the first boot device - reboot onto Vista boot CD - and no drives available to install Vista onto - just doesn't even show up !

I then even tried using the same sata connector as was on the faulty drive - and Vista install still can't see the drive.

I just don't understand it - they were both raided to gether - both un-raided togehter - what can be different about the old drive ?

as before I can boot onto another Hard disk (which is on the Jmicron) - and the 7200.10 is there (the old one) - can format it - write to it - whatever I like - so its not faulty.

so what the heck is stopping Windows Vista installation from seeing it? Some werid partition on it or something ?

thanks for any help, as at this rate will have to buy another drive as I have no idea to progress fromhere.

cheers, Mark.
