Lovely Wolver-ampton!
to try and get my cd/dvd drive working again im going to format and reinstall, seeing as it *was*working without a problem.

so i dont screw anything up can i check some settings with you guys?

in the bios i need to select raid/ide but not use the gigabyte onboard, and use the orange sata connectors on my p35c-ds3r for the sata drive and the ide for my cd/dvd. the cd/dvd drive is plugged in the second, furthest away connection on the cable, so i should be using slave be used?

to make sure im ok bios wise, should i use optimised or failsafe (with the above settings and usb key/mouse support)

which driver should i select off the gigabyte cd when i wants sata drivers? assuming ive disabled the gigabyte onboard thing, assume its the intel ihc9 driver (ahci or raid?)

if ppls could help me with this i'll feel a bit more confident reinstalling as it was more luck than skill that got me up and running - jammy selection but ive messed with it so many times now im a bit clumsy! lol

re: drivers.
well, i have some. on cd. :(

using the update driver wizard says the best driver is installed.

if i set sata port to ide then the hdd doesnt work. this sata / ide is messy innit??

I think I'm confusing people.

The HDD is SATA2 and the ODD is EIDE.

It's on cable select and in position 2 on the IDE cable as position 1 doesn't reach and if I have the ODD at the lowest point, it interferes with the power connecter on the mobo and the cable coming from the PSU

Well, apparently it DOES matter.

Connected the ODD onto the master and set jumper accordingly. It works!

Set it to slave and reconnected it.... It works!

Huzaaaaah.

Now, if only I could get the 7.11 cats to work - well, i say the gfx drivers but i mean catalyst control center. PITA!!!
