re-installing win 10 upgrade from win 8

Hey guys. I've got win 10 - upgraded for free from win 8. I want to do a fresh install as I'm changing motherboard and harddrive. Do I need to go ahead and install win 8 first or just do a clean install of win 10?

It will not work if you have changed your motherboard. You will have too install win 8 activate it ,update it and go though the whole upgrade process again, that is if your win 8 key is not locked to your old mobo.

Couldn't you now simply use your Windows 8 key to install Windows 10 fresh, that is, if your 8 key was "retail" rather than "oem"?

No keys don't get upgraded, you have to install win 8, upgrade to 8.1 then to Win 10.
