Ok so, my hard drive has decided to completely and utterly die on me, I've lost tons of stuff, but probably most annoying is my WoW backup was on it.

Now im reinstalling probably for the first time in 2 years, can anyone give me some advice?

I've read that I install WoW, then TBC, and then I can DL one huge patch for that, but I'm not sure what game version that leaves me at.. can anyone enlighten me so I can start Dling the megatron patch asap? Thank-yee much.

It'll still be a LOT quicker to download the other 40MB than let the Blizzard Downloader do it. :p

Little off topic, but I might reinstall soon too, I heard somewhere you can just copy the WoW folder and paste it back after format or whatever, works with steam (I think) can anyone confirm?

Yeah you can :) I did it not long ago.

If you've got a fast connection, you can download the client from you wow account page. I find its easier and faster that way, I tend to get problems when installing from the cds.

It does work with the Steam interface and yes you can just copy/paste your WoW folder.

Good luck copying it to an external drive.

For some reason this takes hours with USB 2.0.

It does work though I copied and pasted my Wow folder from PC to laptop and it worked. (Surprisingly  !)

Didn't even ask for the retail key which made me wonder how many pcs could I copy the files to?

I can also confirm it works, I have done it loads. I copy the wow directory to my external (takes about 30mins) then transfer to the PC after the format or w/e and works like a treat :)
