Re-installing xp with no support cd?..

Hi.

My mums got a Medion pc that she got from pc world about 4 years ok..Lately its been playing up and generally taking ages to load programs etc..Ive had a quick look and there is so much **** installed that it just needs formatting.

Now she cant find the support cd that she had with it so how do i go about returning it back to factory settings/state without it? (if i even can?)

Any ideas??

Hi..No i dont have access to an OEM Install CD im afraid..

Under hard disks on her pc there are 3 drives...

BOOT (C: ) , BACKUP (D: ) , RECOVER (E: )


Now ive looked on the medion website and it says this:
Hard Drive-based Recovery System − Recovery files are placed on a separate partition of the hard drive that can be accessed if system recovery is needed. No CDs are needed and in most cases the PC can "heal" itself.

If i click on the E: drive the only program i can run is called retten.exe which opens in a dos kind of way but nothing happens..

any idea as my old dear is having a proper go at me over this.. :rolleyes:

Ok stupid question i know but ive really not had a lot to do with pc's since building mine 2 years ago so have forgotten what to do..


I f11 which took me to the bios..then what?

How do i format?...give me a clue and im sure ill remember lol :rolleyes: :)
 
Ok..Ive download an oem version and have started the install...It all started ok until just now :eek: ......The monitor just says "input not supported" and nothing is happening.. :rolleyes: ...she's really going to kill me...

Im guessing the drivers for the monitor need to be installed but how do i do that when i cant see anything???
 
Hi..

The install was half way through..It re-started the pc now i cant see a thing..

Really dont know the spec..

Cant see it being the card etc as it was ok before..Its defo something ive done..Ill try re-booting wish me luck. :(
 
This is strange..I turned it off then on -- I could then see what was going on now its just gone back to "input not supported" :( :( ...im dead
