Im so glad my birthday is in September. I mean, if it was in June I would have been gutted.

I had my eye on upgrading my 2600+

On my budget I was looking at AMD 3500 single core.

Now, all of sudden I can buy an X2 3800+ for pennies more!

Or a few dollars more buy the bee's knee's of CPU's - A conroe!!

After AMD's price slashing, it seems Intel are doing the same...

http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/07/27/intel_intros_conroe_cuts_pentium_prices/

So now im thinking... Hmmm... Will I need a conroe. (given that almost anything is better than my 2600+)... Would it not be better for me to use the savings from AMD or Intel and put these towards a better graphics card.

Say an X1900XT instead of the X1800Gto I was going to buy (due to my budget on the CPU)

Well, things have another 2-3 weeks before I make my purchase... But im wondering that AMD are releasing AM2 socket set and the new Conroe needs a new chipset, will there be large discounts on motherboards for the old chips? Or will the price of these old mobos go up??

If they go down as well, the budget for my graphics card goes up....

Im in my element... Woohoo...

But stay away from the Intel Pentium D's is it? I hear they run hot, dont overclock and are slower than the AMD's X2... Also I think they use more juice, and considering the increase in electricity today I think that it something we need to be careful when choosing a rig...

Might the conroe actually work out cheaper than the X2 3800+ when you factor in the lowering wattage over a year!!!

Thinking about getting maybe an X1800GT, and then another later on when they are cheaper still... (Which they will be... or even buying a 2nd hand one at one point...)

Games I play...

Oblivion.
Age of Empires
oh, and I still enjoy
San Andreas
