Ok, I am coming up to complete oblivion...

I have looked on Gamespot...
I have bought some new games....

Nothing compares...

FEAR. Yeah, its ok. Great graphics. Linear gameplay. Not scary.
(I was scared by half life 1, and system shock 2 - (Excellent game!!!)

AOE 3. Nice graphics. Waaaaay to similar to AOE2 for my liking though.

Civilisation IV. Yeah, great game. Very much like championship manager. Might as well be a hermit if you play this game.... Its always... One more turn... Oh go on, one more. Next thing you know, here is the postman....

City Life.... Great big pile of cack... Its 3D. Its certainly NOT sim city 4. Yeah, you can walk around (hint, use the mouse AND the keyboard to move faster than the snail pace thats standard, and why NO minimap in this mode....)

Just played dungeon seige 2 on my m8's computer.... SOOOOooooo glad I didnt buy this game.... Do you own dungeon seige? Then dont buy DS2.
Ok, its gone LAN built in... Might be worth it for that.... But if you liked DS, and your expecting great things from DS2, your going to be VERY dissapointed... IMHO DS is waaaay more enjoyable. DS2 just feels like more of the same....... And DS isnt really a game you want to complete more than once (unlike oblivion)...

I was planning to upgrade my graphics card... But I am seriously considering against it. Even though the lure of playing Oblivion and seriously high res with full AA and HDR is very, VERY compelling... But is it worth spending over £300
on hardware for one game....

I would say YES, but common sense says NO, unless anyone can recommend a seriously good game... Something like System Shock 2. Homeworld.
Or I am selling my rig and going back to playing Win98 games... I got more enjoyment out of Roller Coaster Tycoon than 95% of the current tosh thats being released.

I like Strategy, RPG and Futuristic/.Medievel type games... Anyone got any recommendations, or is time to buy a Nintendo DS and install Linux....

If you havn't already tried them:

No where as open as Oblivion, but still very good RPGs:
Knights of the Old Republic I then
Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords
Deus Ex

Mafia
Fahrenheit

With KOTOR, if you do play it, don't let the first planet put you off.

Yeah, just been looking on the DS website... Think it is Linux.. Im getting the GF one for her B/Day. I like the WiFi multiplayer mode on the games...

I really think PC gaming is going to die in the mainstream. Especially when everyone will be playing games on LCD TV's. Even 19" Flat Panel's pale into insignificance compared to some of the LCD TV screen sizes. HDTV games anyone??

Gone are the old modulator days into the back of the old 21" TV, with the interference and the fuzziness.

Yep. Its Linux Time.

How on earth can you be scared by Half-Life and not by FEAR?

Medieval or Rome Total War plus various expansions. Failing that you could always look at Hitman: Blood Money and play it for stealth assassin. It's a game you really need to think about what you're doing for each kill rather than in traditional FPS.
