re mobo tri sli help

hi all just a couple of questions on sli/g cards firstly i am thinking of upgrading my mobo in the next week or 2 and thinking of getting an 780i of some sort with tri sli, so is this mobo any good thinking of the xfx one also does the tri sli make much difference or not i have a q6600 and displaying on a dell 30" monitor @2560x1600, my current graphics is nvidia bfg 8800gts 640mb oc2 was hoping to get a second or even third of this card but can only find 512 mb versions of this card so will i have to change the card too any help would be appreciated
 
Tri-SLi is a bit of a waste of time at the moment. It uses a shocking amount of power and delivers little gain. Additionally, Tri-SLi is only supported by the 8800GTX/Ultra, 9800GTX and the new GTX 280 series AFAIK. To be honest, I think you'd do better waiting for the GTX 280 to surface and seeing how good two of them together are.
 
^ i agree. it makes more sense to see how the GTX does in 2 and 3-way modes before making a cioce. iirc, Tom's Hardware just did an article on tri SLI with 8800Ultras, vs 2x 9800GX2s. Also, there are pics of 3-way GTX 280s floating around the interwebz.

ATi afaik are the ones with better tri-gpu scaling, but i'm not so sure...
