I bought a new system from here so sold my previous system with an E8400,Asus P5N motherboard and 8800gt sli to my friend.

Now he says it won't post and 3 beeps on start up.

He has tried the system with both cards running single on pci-e slot 1 but the problem still happens.

Is this more likely to be a motherboard problem as it happens with both cards?

Can't help you directly, but the beeps are codes and differ from one BIOS vendor to another.

Look up the code for 3 beeps for the vendor of the BIOS and that will at least tell you where to start looking.

well you could properly count the mobo out, as it beeps chances are if it beeps its working, don't been to say there is nothing wrong with it, the 3 beeps is the BIOS trying to tell you its picked up something wrong on its check, you can look it up via the manual or ask asus

they mostly do a morss like beep I think that sounds like ram if I remember my asus boards, which may well use the same company bios award i think, well thats what is says on the P5N range.

well mine also is award so I m guessing it would have the same beep codes

*edit* grr can't find it

Thanks for the replies, I got the machine back and tried it with my hd5870 and it boots no problem.

The cards both 8800gt don't boot in my machine either.

I am surprised that both cards only just over 2 years old no longer work.

stick em in the oven, if they no longer work, what have you got to lose, particularly if they are out of warranty
