Bigger box!
I played this through when it was brand new, so 10 years or so ago (I think!!).

Had the urge to play again and I'm about 2 hours in now (The bit where Tifa is in some Dons house) and really enjoying it....

So... This might be a difficult question to answer without giving any massive spoliers (It seems I barely remember anything from the once I played this through and that makes this all the more fun).....

If I just play through and eventually complete the game, am I likely to miss massive parts?
Is it worth using a guide or FAQ?
Am I even likely to finish it with no help?

I'd really like to just crack on with it and frankly, I probably will, but at the same time, if I'm going to invest 80 odd hours in the game I don't want to miss any of the really cool bits!!

I know it's not an easy one to answer, and I should probably just get on with it, but thought I'd see what sort of response I get....

Cheers

PS, I know this holds a massive place in most peoples hearts, so I might post a few screenies as I go :D

i cant remember playing a single rpg that was so hard that it required a guide... maybe if you are looking for 100% completion/collection but for the main storyline, its usually cake. even if you do find it hard, all you have to do is grind a little bit

Things to do:
Get Yuffie and Vincent
Get a Gold Chocobo
Get the master materia in yellow and green and red
Kill Emerald Weapon
Kill Ruby weapon (the only think I have never done!)
Get all ultimate weapons.

I would do most of the above on disc 3 at the start- Just turn around and get back in the highwind ship.

EDIT: Provided that during the game you don't frequently run away from battles (and therefore level slowly), the game is easy.

I literally just started this again a few days ago ( Diddnt know my PS3 could play PS1 games.. ) Currenlty just aquired the Tiny Broncoe and Cid.

Anyway, dont think there is much to miss, just explore all areas and you near enough get most things...On my first ever play through years ago I did miss one major thing though..

--Slight Spoiler..

I failed the subamrine mini game and therfore stopped myself from getting Bahamut Zero :(

Stop posting pics your making me want to play it again :D I used to have the FF7 victory tune for my message alert on my phone:o

Over the course of its lifetime how many threads have been made on OCUK talking about Final Fantasy 7. I know in charts and things it often comes 2nd\3rd to some other game\s. But I've not known any other games crop up as often as FF7 on the boards. I think that shows how much of an absolute classic it is.

Great game, I remember when I first played it I didnt use a walkthrough guide until near the end when I wanted to know what I had missed. Turns out I missed a certain materia (cant remember name) that you can only get when exploring some underground cave late in the game which you cant go back to and I remember was a very annoying place because literally every 2 seconds it would go "WOOSH" and your back in a battle, so I got out of there asap, and missed the materia just lying on the ground :(

I think if you've played it before you probably can remember the story so now when you play it you want to have some real fun again and I think you can do that by using a guide, and getting all the equipment and not missing anything out. Then at the end you will have completed it 100% (those weapons are a mean feat, I only managed to beat 2 of them!) and that will be satisfying! It will take you over 80 hours to work out how to get a gold chocobo and all the other stuff etc if you do that all on your own!

I thought Bahamut Zero was in cosmo Canyon?

If I recall correctly, if you fail the minigame you dont get the regular submarine straight away and you miss one of the Huge materias, then if you want a submarine at all you go and steal the red one.

Mini Edit:

Oh, Chris, one thing that is slighty useful is when your at the top of the shinra building when you begin to encounter those Soldier guys in battle be sure to steal off them to get Hardedge for Cloud!
