Hi Guys!

So for a long time now I have been considering downgrading the size of my rig to something more manageable while having some serious horses under the bonnet. My current system is as follows:

Case: 900D
Mobo: Asus Rampage IV Extreme
CPU: i7 3930K @ 5Ghz
CPU Block: XSPC Raystorm
RAM: 32GB Kingston HyperX Beast @ 1600Mhz
GPU: 1 x GTX 980 with XSPC Razer Block
PSU: Corsair AX1200i (Overkill I know but the AX860i was out of stock)
SSD: 2 x 512GB Plextor M5 Pro
HDD: 2 x 2TB Western Digital Caviar Black
Radiators: 2 x XSPC AX480mm
Fans: 16 x SP120 Quiet Edition + 3 x AF120 Quiet Edition (Red Rings)
Pump: D5 with XSPC Top
Reservoir: EK-RES X3 250
Coolant: Mayhems Pastel Red
Tubing: XSPC Clear 7/16"
Fittings: Black Chrome XSPC
Cables: Corsair Generation 2 Sleeved Cable Kit Red
Lighting: 3 x White BitFenix Alchemy Premium Modding 30cm
Custom Parts: ColdZero 900D Midplate, 900D Mb Tray Cover, 5.25" Side Cover and 5.25" Back Cover

Considering I have moved home 4 times in the last 4 years, it is an absolute pain to move around and hogs a ton of space. I move fairly frequently and sometimes have a small space to set-up, so something smaller will just be more ideal. With that said, I don't want to compromise on power... Being a 3D Games Artist I need the horses under the hood to grunt out the renders and utilize 3D software to the full extent.

I have taken some inspiration from a build I saw over at Maliks Customs (seen below):

The above build only has 1 x 240mm radiator for both the GPU and CPU, which is pushing it. I certainly couldn't run a CPU and 2 x GPU's from a single 240mm radiator, which is the reason for going for the Node 804 which supports 2 x 240mm on the top and 2 x 240mm on the front. So I have put together the following build:

Case: Fractal Node 804
Mobo: EVGA X99 Micro
CPU: i7 5930K
CPU Block: XSPC Raystorm (White)
RAM: Kingston Predator 16GB 3000MHz Quad Channel Kit
GPU: 2 x GTX 980Ti with XSPC Razer Block
PSU: Corsair AX860
SSD: 2 x Samsung 840 EVO 1TB
HDD: 2 x 2TB Western Digital Caviar Black
Radiators: 2 x XSPC AX240mm
Fans: 4 x SP120 Quiet Edition + 4 x AF120 Quiet Edition (White Rings)
Pump/Resevoir: XSPC D5 Photon 170 Reservoir/Pump Combo
Coolant: Mayhems Ice Dragon Nano Fluid
Tubing: XSPC White 19/13mm
Fittings: Monsoon 19/13mm Fittings (White)
Cables: Corsair Generation 2 Sleeved Cable Kit White
Lighting: 2 x White BitFenix Alchemy Premium Modding 30cm

What do you think, any issues with the parts list? Any improvements or amendments? I am open to any suggestions.

Keep your PSU, if you go SLI+X99 then thats some strong power draw (especially should you overclock) I always suggest 1KW for X99+SLI setups.

Could you also not just source a mATX X79 board such as a Rampage Gene.

I had considered it. The power draw of the 5930k OC'ed and the 980 Ti's only comes to around 800W, so 850w is cutting it fine! The problem is I am selling my current rig as a full system, so I can't really take parts out without effecting the price.

I could buy a AX860i and switch it with the AX1200i, or just buy another AX1200i/RM1000.

I see, so selling off all the existing build.

Ok.

Spend £70'ish on a suitable PSU for the X79 setup and keep that larger PSU for the new X99 setup. You will have to do the maths to see if its worth doing that..spending money to save money or not.

Mmhmm, that certainly is a option I am considering. I don't mind spending another £100 for the old build (especially as I'm getting such a great price for it). It will easily fund the new one and leave me some spare change to boot.
