Has anybody any information on how to do this? I'm looking to do an iPad mini install into the car so would like to move the headunit to the glovebox, a friend of mine has done something similar in his Passat estate but he has the headunit in the centre armrest, said its 3 wires, permanent live, switched live and ground.

Anyone else done this?

just lengthen your current power/earth wires by three feet and poke em through to the left.

If you are moving the whole headunit it will be more than 3 wires.

Depending on the car many have an ISO connector with a up to 16 wires :

If it is indeed an ISO or similar I'd make up an extension lead that connects there the headunit is now and runs through to the new location, or if you're lucky you might be able to pull the existing connector through to the glove box

It is however very car dependant, my old volvo for example had far more wires as it also had an external amplifier.

Why do you want to move it? Can you not just remove it completely? Unless of cause you don't run external amplifiers

You'd also need to extend other wires for display/steering wheel controls/bluetooth modules/changers depending on your car and headunit.
