Evenin guys,

Just moved from Virgin 10mbit to Sky TV and BB.

I went for Broadband max as apparently my LLU has been enabled in Lichfield. I am only 1.5 miles away from the exchange, but for somem reason i only get 8Mbit max.

Can you please check these line stats and let me know what you think

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8096 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 43.0 db 27.5 db
Noise Margin 7.8 db 14.0 db

I also seem to have a problem with my phone lines in the house as it only seems to work off the master socket, and thats not in the room i want to use it. I have put filters on all other phones and tried disconnecting the phones.

My router just says connected at 8Mbit. Its an Netgear DG834GT.

Any advice appreciated

Cheers

Bazola

your on 8mb as your on G.DMT as your noise margin on the downstream is not fantastic any higher and on adsl2+ your line would most likely have a lot of errors and be unstable.

Of course all the above is assuming your line stats.

of course you can increase the noise margin with some perhaps a new facia.
See sky user for information.

As for using your router apart from in the master either go wireless or use a ethernet cable. Master socket always provides the best connection.

when my friend was connected to sky he only received 8meg and had to call sky to get his profile updated to Adsl2+.

You have the same noise margins as me and i get the same speeds!

I'm buying a much better router soon though so will see if I can grab a better connection via that.

A couple of times I have grabbed a 9MB connection but I guess the routers handling of the line is just as important as the lie itself.
