a lot of people tend to use the spray paint from halfords, and if i remember what it is called ill let you know, i think its along the lines of plasti-kote or something. Get some primer and then the colour you want. Put as many coats of primer as you think it needs and then spray (colour..) about two coats of the colour you want.
Never done it myself so ill let someone else clarify the details.
Plasti-kote is very good, I normally whack a couple coats of primer on and then a couple coats of colour. You could also try using a little lacquer after the colour, if you want an extra nice finish. Just make sure you have a clean/dry/non dusty place to paint them with plenty of room. The smallest of things like dust or a finger print can pretty much ruin it if your painting the whole case.
After each coat it's best to sand it all down before the next coat. It makes for a better finish and keeps it even. I used acrylic paint recently and was quite happy with the result. Used that, then lacquer and now just got to give it some Turtle Wax for the finish.
Yeah. It gives the paint something to grip to better. It's especially good when spraying on glossy plastic to sand it down before painting and after each coat.
If its bare aluminium then you'll either need to sand or use a self etching primer (adheres better to ally) and if its already painted just sand the top surface to give the paint something to key to.
It's up to you really. I can say that I did a couple sections with and then without sanding and those that were sanded were much easier and well worth the effort of a quick sanding.
