I brought my 1st ever computer over 3 years ago so i am a bit of a noob. However i have been reading these forums for a couple of years but never made a post until now so please go easy on me.
You see the thing is i have been spending this time soaking up as much as i can with a view to building my next pc.
My current specs are:

Athlon 3000+
7800gs AGP
2gb generic ram
etc etc

I love the idea of building my own but having seen the immaculate build quality that the pros at OK do i am now in a bit of a quadry as to what to do.

The £1500 question is:
1. is it that difficult for a 1st timer
2. Is it worth it considering the fact that if OC do it for me i am assured it will be a better put together machine than i could possibly do as a rookie
thus forsaking the experience and satisfaction of doing it myself.

Many thanks guys.

First question, no its not difficult
Second question, the only thing thats going to be slightly better probably is cable managment, other than that it doesnt really matter how much experience you've got
Either way for £1500 you can get a really nice system

Physically assembling the computer is easy, most of the instructions you need will be in the manual that comes with the motherboard. The rest is intuitive, or if you get stuck ask for advice on here. Most time-consuming job is always installing the OS, configuring it, installing your applications etc.; and you'll have to do that anyway.

You learn by doing.

I got my first ever computer about 4 years ago. this was a self build, by me, spoke to a couple of mates, had a look at a few internals and that was it. It's that simple i'd never buy a pre built as long as i live!

just go slow, and be careful, least if anything were to go wrong (ie faulty parts) you can come on here with your current PC to ask for advice (i couldn't :p)

Just do it yourself, your be surprised how easy it is, and its very satisfying.

Personally, if you are willing to spend enough time on the build I think you can make them look as good as they do in the build log. Part of the propblem is picking the right case for cable management.

Agreed with everyone so far. I see it has a hobby almost. Upgraded and putting together my own pc.

Now that we got that out of the way. Lets get to the £1500 spec :)

I built my first PC this time last year and was surprised how easy and quick it was to do. Before that i had only changed cards and a PSU.
Since then i upgraded twice , moved into 2 different cases and fitted a watercooling set up (with 2 different air coolers in-between)....i spend more time messing around inside the case than playing games.

Just done my 2nd build and as said follow instructions that come with mobo and ur laughing. the worst part is installing software. takes forever.
Nothing better then the feeling of building a computer by ur self. especially after wasting a lot of money on the high street. for sub spec systems at crazy prices.

As people have said they are dead easy to do. The reason I went pre-built was that I physically don't have the time to put the care that I'd like into building at the moment.

I was a bit loathed to go pre-built until I just how good the OcUK builds are to be honest. :)

I have been reading the various replies and i thank you for your opinions.

I think the thrill of building my own wil be the way to go judging by the response. That being so can you guys help me select the correct parts for my needs?

Being, 1. Gaming
2. I have just got the Sony TG3E HD 1080i camcorder and would need to be able
to use the the pc to display footage in all its HD glory and burn blu ray discs
3. Budget is £1500 give or take

Thank you

To build or not to build that is the question i toyed with last year. I had always bought pre built systems (pretty crap ones at that ). My online buddies convinced me that it was a relatively easy thing to do so i took the plunge and ordered 1500 pounds of components from overclockers and some from an another e-tailer that is based here in ireland.

I probably would have bought a pre-built overclockers pc if i had lived in the uk as i really like the collect and return warranty. Shipping a pc back to the uk costs a fortune.

You guys dont know how lucky you are to live in the uk for warranties and the like. Anyway i built it and it booted and worked :). I saved money in the process, my pc knowledge increased and when i have to troubleshoot, it is easier as i know where everything goes.

So i say, take the leap!

Build the system your self :D you will enjoy it

The only real problems that mite be hard to do is fix faults on the system, some can be tricky to spot.

I had the same problem in October time, wasn't sure if I should do it all myself or pay for it to be done.

I decided I should build myself, so I set about ordering everything I needed and waited for the deliver. Was like waiting for Xmas!

Anyway, it all went smoothly, but it did take a good few hours to figure everything out. I'm glad I decided to plunge into the self build, I know how easy it will be to replace parts in the future! :)

build it yourself mate.
it's a nice feeling when you put the os disk in for the first time and you see the bios screen.
also once you build one you'll be confidant of any upgrades/repairs
