Re-thread tool?

That would depend on if the thread has gone on the bolt or hub surely?

Assuming the OP didn't make a mistake when he said wheel nut, it's either the nut or the stud (or both) with damaged threads. If it's the stud then you will probably have to remove to hub to replace it.
 
Can you posta pic of the threads so we can see how/if it is salvageable? (set camera in close up mode so we can see rather than blur)

I'm away from home till Friday so unfortunately I can't post a pic till late Friday.
I'm pretty sure the threads are only slightly damaged but it's enough for the bolt to slip and not tighten.

Ok, if its a Stud on the hub, you can get a thread file which you can use to clean the threads up, then run a DIE down the stud to clean it up more. If it is a hole, then you will need to use a TAP of the correct size.
