I have an unused DG834G.

I'm looking at a room that is a loft conversion, and would ideally like to keep a wired connection if possible.

Would I be able to hook powerline plugs up to the main modem in the house, with the other plug in my room, then connected to my router, which can then act as a wired router for my main pc, and wifi for my other 2 machines?

Turn off DHCP and connect the homeplug output to a LAN port on the router, then set the Wireless to be the same SSID and password as the main router (this way you will just connect to whichever of them gives you the stronger signal) and connect your main computer to a different LAN port. That is all you need to do.
