picked this up for my sons wii cheap. Man this is hard! I played re1/2 on ps back in the day but is it me or are the controls impossible?

Resi 4 for the Wii has the best controls out of all the Resi 4 versions.

What are you finding hard about them?

You think that's hard, you should try it on the PS2! Seriously though, i found the game incredibly easy on the Wii due to a far more responsive control system being utilized but with zero change to enemy AI behaviour totally destroying the difficulty.

Go for the legs, when they fall down just keep shooting them in the head, jobs a goodun.

oh well guess Its me not used to control mechanism, i shall persevere with as looks fun game.

Its a great game (one of the only resi games that really made me feel involved) and as much as i hate to admit it I feel its down the the wii controls alone. Most of the wii games feel VERY gimmicky to me but that was one game that just ..... worked.

If this is the first time you played Resident Evil 4 and you were so used to the older games, then it's no surprise it feels weird. Even weirder as it is the Wii version since you have to put up with the over-the-shoulder third-person perspective and the new control scheme. If it's the tank like controls you find awkard as well then that is intentional just like the older games.
