On the road....
My girlfriends beloved "WAR Car" - a battered M reg Fiesta diesel with the letters "WAR" in the reg,has to go it seems.

She has a max budget of £1k, and has seen an N reg 81k 205 diesel for £1K, she's been offered £250 for the fiesta, which has 12months mot, but, a damaged front drivers side door ,panel & wing.*

Her requirements are something safe, diesel (she likes diesels!) ideally similar in size to the fiesta.

I'm saying the 205 is £500 too much, without seeing it.

Any sensible suggestions appreciated. - She's insured on my BMW but I think she likes it too much..... :p

Cheers. :)

*She did'nt do the damage, she got the car for buttons due to the damage....

The pug diesel would be a better bet at high mileage than the fezzer, but as you say it needs a bit of haggling down in price. Whats it like?, there was an L/M reg 205 diesel for sale by me a while back (£1500 and 140k  ) but it was nigh on GTi spec with trim, alloys etc...
:)

You could as Penski says get a 306 Diesel, they're newer and much safer than a 205 which is related to the tin can family.

The engines are solid but the electrics are a different story but i'm sure you'd find that with the 205 (in fact I know you would because I've had both).

I'm sure someone will say get a Citroen Xsara or Xantia so I think I'll say it first before anyone else does. :p

Would you get a 106 or Saxo 1.5D for that money?

Citroen AX Diesel? Isn't that suppsed to be really easy on juice?

Not sure about the diesel but the little petrol engines are supposedly good for 40Mpg+

From some random webiste I've just googled:
The AX used two diesels during its lifetime, including the earlier 1·4 litre unit, and the more modern (and altogether a much better donk, too) 1·5 litre one. The later 1·4 diesel is notable for the combined economy figure of over 67 mpg, making it one of the most economical cars ever sold in the UK, but it also reaches 60 in under fifteen seconds; one of the quicker “atmo” diesel superminis. All Citroen AX diesels are a good compromise between performance and economy, but the later 1·5 litre engine is the one to have.

So you class a 205 as safe?

Not being funny but if she's in a serious accident (and we all prey that she won't be) in either then neither will stand up too well imo.

Really only the Xsara and 306 will hold up to it thats been suggested so far in the thread. Thats why i recommended one.

I think a Pug 106 Diesel would be quite good, my friend usually get 45mpg out of hers... and she thinks it "cute".

Sorry it's just that you dismissed the AX straight of the bat yet you're considering purchasing a 205 by the sounds of your OP that's all.
