Read error

Hello I have an ide hard disk and when i connect it it works fine. However when I connect my internal dvd drive to the same ide cable I cannot boot the computer it says Disk read error etc. I have tried two different ide cables and the results are the same. Do i need to activate something in the bios etc? Any help would be great.

For IDE drives, make sure the drive is configured as either Master or Slave or set both to cable select. The Master is always at end of cable, the slave is the middle.
