I have a friend who has a broken motherboard in their mac laptop. I'd like to take the HDD out and copy some files onto DVDR, but I have a PC.

How do I go about reading the mac HDD on my PC?

Correct me if I'm wrong but Mac HDDs are 2.5" therefore you would need an IDE converter 2.5" to 3.5"

Edit-- overclockers dont seem to stock these so I cant provide a link but there are loads on the bay, you can get USB ones too :)

if its a laptop drive you are going to need a 2.5" to 3.5" drive adaptor

if you get the adaptor you could hook up the drive boot to a live linux cd such as knoppix and transfer the files (may need tweaking to get write access on ntfs drives, i havent tried in in over a year later versions may have this as stanndard now)

alternative version minus the adapter :D
have you got another laptop?

pop the mac drive in another laptop, set the bois to boot from the cd and use the live linux cd then transfer the files via network

*disclaimer....... i dont use linux even tho i seem to be advertising it lol

I've bought a "Hard Drive IDE 2.5 to 3.5 Adapter Converter for Laptop".

I've never used Linux though so am a bit daunted about dabbling with it.

ive only dabbled in it a bit know nothing about it really but the live cds are a doddle to use, set the bios to boot from cd and thats it, no need to install anything etc

if youve got your adaptor hook it up and try that program you metioned in the op
