My netbook was looking a bit like it need cheering up recently, so I decided to treat it to a glass of beer, all over the keyboard while it was switched on.

It predictably fizzled and died. :(

So now it won't switch on. But I was wondering if there is a way I can remove the HD and hook it up to my desktop so I can see if I can save any of the data on it? I know it's probably dead too after a nice beer-soaking, but it may be worth trying at least.

The HD is just like any normal HD, just smaller. You should be able to just hook it up to your motherboard ports (I assume SATA) and it should show up in the BIOS. Just make sure the PC is not gonna boot from it (should be easy to setup the boot order in the BIOS).

Incorrect, if its an old Acer Aspire One then it might have a ZIF connector SSD in which case you will need to buy a 1.8" Zif external usb caddy.

you could buy a cheap 2.5" hard drive USB enclosure put the laptop hard drive inside it and then you can just plug it into your PC and away you go :)

Check what model yours is as the Asus Eee PC 701sd has a sdd drive that is a circuit board sdd like this here http://www.**********/Product.aspx?WebProductID=1032949&source=froogle.
