Reading on a smartphone?

Hi,

I plan on getting back into reading, and trying to decide whether to buy physical books or buy them on google play.

I will mostly be reading outside, also when it's sunny. Now, my only concern is sun glare on the screen. I know that glare will sometimes make it harder to read, I'm fine with this. However, will reading on my smartphone in the sun damage my eyes?

It's doable, and will work, but it's not the most pleasant experience.

Personally, if you're going to be doing a fair bit of reading I'd get a proper e-reader. The new kindles can be had for around £70 I think, not too much, and you can generally get the books a fair bit cheaper, so doesn't take too long to start making the money back.

Agreed, I have an n4 and a kindle paperwhite and no comparison for the reading., love both devices but kindle is a awesome for reading which the n4 isn't

yup thirded .get an ereader for reading books'so much easier/better on the eyes.te paperwhite is supposed to be great for reading outside in bright light

I'll also agree, I got a Kobo Glo and it's awesome!

Best of all, both Kobo and Amazon have Android apps which will synchronize your purchases and bookmarks across all devices, so you can start reading a book on your e-reader and continue from where you left off on your smartphone!

The only downside to an ereader is they don't tend to handle PDFs very well, because scrolling and panning is slow on an e-ink screen, whereas a phone or tablet will react instantly. So if you've bought any PDFs (or downloaded free ones from Google Books or Project Gutenberg) you're better off reading them on your phone.

Any kindle will be better for books as others have said. As it's for the outside I wouldn't even bother with a new one, the older kindles do fine for this and you can get tons on them on ebay for cheap.

How does reading on e-ink compare to the other readers like kobo or the kindle fire, my dad has an old e-ink no pics kindle and it's nice on the eyes.
