k peeps here a nice little problem im hoping one of you might be able to help me on so here goes.

i bought a pc just under a year ago from ocuk and when i got it home i was like WOW this is a monster compared to me old pc and was loving it, i play lord of the rings online and with the new pc i shot up from all the graphics settings being on low-med and still juddering all over the place to the highest graphics settings and not a slight judder anywhere.

so after reading post in general i noticed that its advisable to do a format least every 6-12months on a gaming machine so to keep it running smoothly, well since i needed a 2nd HHD to do a format i went and bought a 10k rpm 16mb cache 150gb raptor and i thought i might aswell get some more ram also so i bought 4gb corsair. i first put in the ram and did a c-mos reset and found things wernt going very well so did some reading and noticed xp32 doesnt really benefit from 4gb so pulled it out and put in me old ram and reset c-mos again and then put all me setting back to what they was before i did ram change. Then i put in me new raptor installed OS on it and started putting all me drivers on it and then problems started.

when i log into lotro i find i cant put the setting to anywhere near what they used to be coz im just juddering all over the place i know its computer lag not internet lag. im finding me FPS is good at 70-150 in most places of the game like it used to be except when i have the judder and also when it judders the HHD is working as if its caching etc just seem as if something in the line of communication is slowing down

spec before upgrade:
abit AWD9D mobo
2.4ghz E6600 processor (overclocked by ocuk -3ghz)
Cell shock 2x1GB dual 800mhz DDR2 (overclocked by ukoc)
WD 500gb 7.5k rpm 16mb cache HDD
BFG nvidia 768mb geforce8800GTX graphics card
prof freeze7 cooler

BIOS setting in guru
CPU operating speed- user define
External clock - 334mhz
N/B strap CPU as- psb 1066
DRAM spec DDR2 -667 (DDR2-885)

Voltage control - user define
CPU core - 1.4v
DDR2 - 2.10v
MCH & PCIe - 1.51v

they are the bios setting that ocuk sent me incase i needed to reset cmos

what ive also done is a stress test using nvidia Ntune on each piece of hardware and they all pass but soon as i stress test with them all combined it crashes after 10minutes comes up saying nvidia need to close due to a error blablabla

so what i need to know is if anybody has any ideas to why im getting errors during internet explorer and to why im unable to put my graphics setting as high as they used to be with just putting in this new HHD even tho in theory things **** be a lot faster due to faster HHD and cleaner

cheers for any help and please if you have any ideas explain them as im not a expert hehe

Welcome to the forums,

One quick question, did you put the old RAM back in the same two slots as they were in before?

PK!

Pix or it didn't happen.
Oh.. You aint bashed it yet... !!

btw.. You don't need to reset cmos just to add or remove RAM.

Your graphics issue sounds like a corrupted driver or DirectX

My daughter plays LOTRO heaps... But she runs it on Ubuntu through WINE. If you like headaches you try configuring it in that !!

Stop Hammer Time

You dont really need to format every 6-12 month unless you have a major problem.

Its best to format again then get all the drivers sorted Chipset first then graphics

yup ram back in same slots

well as for graphics driver issue for some reason the disk that came with card wouldnt let me install drivers so i d/l the lastest from nvidia
but for some reason even if i put me old HHD which hasnt been formatted yet and just run that the graphics still dont work so im thinking something may not be right in c-mos

Take out the new drive it has a windows install on it, that is why you cant boot from the old drive or change the boot order

sorry chabsy but think u not understood hehe

at the mo with the graphics not running at full spec im using 1 HHD the raptor one

but even if i put in me old HHD on its own with no raptor there the graphics are still a issue

OK, so you've ruled out a software fault. Next, check every component in your case is in its place securely, especially the RAM and Graphics card, and any cables you may have unplugged.

However, as its juddering not just refusing to work it sounds more likely to be a problem with one of your settings in the BIOS. Check that they are all what they are supposed to be. It might be worth seeing how things perform at the default settings, without any overclocking.

PK!

cheers for the sugestions pk and keep them coming hehe

ive reset c-mos to default and nope still as bad

just give u some more details on what its doing:

when other characters/new scenery is loading as im moving around i hear the HHD spinning and it judders as it loads up which it never used to do was instant and for some reason when i put in me other HHD on its own that now does the same thing its almost as if something in the system isnt in sync and slowing it all down

ive never used a flash bios program but is it possible that when ukoc built the pc and set it up they updated the bios using the guru flashbios software which comes with the pc and then when i reset me bios with the jumper it cleared this update???

Are those hard drives SATA or IDE ?

If they are IDE has PIO mode inadvertantly been set ? If it has then that would have a dramatic effect on drive access speed.

Set them to Auto in Bios so it should use DMA ( providing you are using 80 core cable)

update: stress testing again individual pieces of hardware when im testing PCI-E bus its crashes on this didnt test this last time so does the help anybody >?
