Got the option of picking one of these up dirt cheap. Really just wanting to know what they are like. I used to have the other Netgear one, the SC101 and it was literally pap.

Are these ReadyNAS units better?

It will be home use to sit along side a single rack mount server in a wardrobe. Can they take more than the 2x500Gb?

They are capable but dont be expecting mega speed.

Miles better than SC101 - that really wasn't a proper NAS. Incompatible with lots of things.

The ReadyNAS take up to 2TB disks, theres a compatibility list for disks on the Netgear website.

The Duo which is the bottom of the range takes 2 disks in either RAID 0 or RAID (mirrored)
