Real Ale

Good man for drinking some proper beer.

If you can find any, Old Hooky is pretty much the best ale I've ever tasted. Other recommendations would be Spitfire, Golden Glory, and anything from Wychwood Brewery. :)

Other than that, just work your way through the 3 for £4/4 for £5 deals at the supermarket, and find something you like.

Once I got used to proper ale, I found that a lot of lagers had a horrible chemically taste, which is probably why they are served ice cold.

Oh, and look out for the special 'clip-on beard' offers on some bottles. And wearing sandals whilst imbibing improves the flavour. FACT.

Leffe is a blond beer, the other ones mentioned are somewhat stronger and more intense.
There is also Leffe Brune (6.5%), which I highly recommend.

I'm not a real ale drinker but its normally people who are very anal who drink them, and will slate anything which isnt real ale,

Thats me then.
There are some dreadful real ales but compared to the likes of John Smiths, Boddingtons etc then theres no comparison.

An important real ale habit is to make sure you drink them from the lowest strength up.

Ive seen Old Hooky but never tried it (Asda) I tried their 12 Days (Christmas beer) which was very nice though.

My favourite bottled ale is probaly Badger Golden Glory, pub wise the local wetherspoons had one called Trade Winds on a while ago I could have drank that forever.

I tend to find the lighter ales are generally nicer, though sometimes a dark one suprises me.
