Hi folks,

I'm building an uber small SFF from scratch, with primary uses of:

  • Surfing
  • Outlook
  • Several Excel spreadsheets at one time

Please critique it! Will all the parts (a) fit and (b) match?

  • X-Case S002 SFF Case with 450W PSU
  • MB-411-AS Asus P7H55-M Intel H55 microATX Mobo
  • CP-367-IN Intel Core i3-2100 3.10GHz (Sandybridge) CPU
  • BU-006-CS Corsair Value 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz
  • HD-364-WD Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB
  • KB-015-BZ Blaze BL-6400 2.4GHz Wireless Desktop keyboard/mouse
  • HS-027-SY Scythe Shuriken Quiet Low Profile CPU Cooler
  • MO-059-IY IIyama Prolite E2271HDS 22" Widescreen LED Monitor
  • CB-007-OP OcUK Professional 2 Meter HDMI Cable
  • Samsung Blu-ray Optical Drive [Current]

Cheers!

Edit: Bottom line is about £465 inc. VAT, good hey?

The other possible case would be the Silverstone ML01, but at under 100mm thick, would everything fit? Is the Scythe Shuriken small enough?

The motherboard is s1156 and wont work with Sandybridge s1155 cpu's

Assuming price is paramount to you,the MSI H67MA-E35 Intel H67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Micro-ATX Motherboard - (Sandybridge) **B3 REVISION**
at a shade under 60 quid, will do the job nicely.

Brilliant thanks Legion.

Do you know much about either of those cases? I've always used Lian-Li in the past, but they don't really go in for SFF...the Scythe heatsink should be fine even in those tight cases yeh?

The scythe will work in either case.

Are you buying a retail cpu that comes with the heatsink and fan?
If so that will work also in these cases and for what you are going to use this for is more than enough cooling power.
Personally if I were you I'd use the retail heatsink supplied with the cpu first.
If you find it's too noisy which I highly doubt you can then look at the scythe or something else.

Yes the onboard gfx are enough for Windows and media playback duties.

As for case choice I'd be more inclined to go with the Silverstone over the renamed generic case.
The psu will be quieter and more robust in the Silverstone case.

Ah I was thinking in a case 95-120mm deep the stock heatsink would be too high? Hence the Scythe...but if I'm wrong then that just makes it cheaper! :D

Edit: I'm doubting the stock PSU in the X-Case would be great, i.e. noisy...but can't find mATX PSU's anywhere...do they exist? Should only need 350W odd to run that rig?

300w is overkill for that rig Bertles.

Stock heatsink is ~60mm on the new i3 and i5's,it will fit.

As stated previously the Silverstone case and it's included psu is more than enough.
As for matx psu's yes they do exist but won't work in the Silverstone case, that comes with a flex atx psu.
Be Quiet make matx psu's up to 300w and Silverstone make them up to 450w.

Ah ha superb, I'll use the Silverstone case then as it's smaller.
