why do they seem to read 10degrees apart? Core temp seems to read high

I am confused. why is this, which is more accurate; if either

TJmax calibration will be wrong on one of them I am assuming..

This value should be set to 100c for i7's.

ah ha, nice 1 DavyBoy - set those values and they are reading the same..

I could google but what is TJmax and how did you come to set them at 100 for i7?

Tjmax is the temperature at which the cpu will shut itself down to prevent damage from overheating.

mixture of all, personally i use speedfan, hwmonitor for all other temps (cpu, mobo, HD) but use real/core temp only for the cores, but i generally go on overall cpu temp more then core though.

oh dear LOL

May have to invest in one of those IR temperature sensors

I have used those at work - we dont trust them anymore, I demonstrated how surface roughness/texture and contaminants alter the reading, even changing the angle of the laser on the surface can deviate the reading.
