I've always fancied an RC helicopter since I was a kid.
Whilst having a quick look around yesterday, I found sim called RealFlight 3.5. Whilst far from cheap, also includes a handcontroller. Here's a link:

Have to say that I'm very tempted.
The only thing that really puts me off is whether to buy a sim of an RC aircraft, or a sim of a real helicopter, e.g. Xplane.

I get the impression that the RC sim is probably more responsive to settings and also includes tutorials and the option to tailor build the aircraft infering that it'll be more versatile.

Has anyone here ever tried RealFlight and can comment on what it's like.
So close to coughing up the dosh for this. I love the idea of playing it on 72" screen from my projector.

I've used that at my local model shop, it's as about as realistic as it gets (for RC) without crashing a few hundred quids worth of kit. There was a sim similar to that which was free and also supported the rc controller, I'll see if I can find a link for you.

Buy a real RC copter?

Fine, but the sim:
- Can be used in any weather and at any time
- Doesn't need repairing when you pile it up

Thanks for the link to the freebie.
I'll try to have a scan at that. Still considering buying RF3.5.

Has anyone ever compared Xplane or similar to one of these?
I'm thinking about the realism of the flight model and which does a better job

Problem is with these is that you don't get any perspective of how high the copter or plane is due to your FOV being lmited to a TFT

See my comment about using a projector.

I didn't read the entire thread, but I can still see problems with the perspective, but no doubt the projector will help a lot.

Just installed this, but I can't change graphics settings. Set to 1600x1200 16 bit, monitor is 1920x1200. Also have to force AA in drivers. Can you change settings in real flight? When I go into graphics options you can reset to default, but not do anything else.

My brothers into RC planes says PC simulator lack 3d and perspective.
