Afternoon all,

Built my first pc about 2 months ago and I’ve only just realised that no one can hear me because when ever I talk, it’s just a static-like crackle? Tried another headset and the same thing happens. Everything else is fine though, output is perfect with no distortion. So I’m not sure if it’s some sort of problem with settings or hardware.

I only realised yesterday when trying to talk to teammates on HLL, I had one very angry German demanding I sort my mic out!

Appreciate any help

Almost certain it's a hardware issue. Can't really see how settings could affect something in that way.

Could be the headset, or most likely, interference is being picked up inside the case. Strange it doesn't affect the output though.

Have you tried two completely different headsets, or two of the same model? I ask because if it's the headset that is the problem and is because of bad design, another one of the model would be the same.

Likely it's interference, because not very often someone has 2 headsets that are exactly the same. :p

You could try a cheap USB sound dongle with headphone and microphone out/inputs. If that works, you can stick with that or get a sound card.

Tried with some Astro A40’s and a set of standard Apple headphones (only thing I had lying about) and the same problem is there. I’ve checked the HD audio cable from the case to the mobo and there’s no dodgy pins or anything that I can see. That’s about as far as my knowledge goes haha.

I have the NZXT H510i case, and I don’t know if it’s related in any way at all, but the power button LED flashes constantly? Tried googling it but couldn’t find anything relevant.

Sorted. Not entirely sure what I done but it was something on the advanced settings to do with input format haha. When in doubt, mess with things you have no clue about until something good happens, or you break everything.
