Got my G0 today, and no matter what i do it will not go over 2.69GHz (299x9 / 1199 FSB) If i increase the FSB by 1MHz more, to 1200MHz, it will not boot windows Vista or XP. Sometimes the system posts ok, but as it goes to load windows it restarts.

I've tried:
Loads of diff FSB speeds from 1200 - 1610MHz. None of them will work, anything under 1200MHz works though.
CPU voltages all the way up to 1.5v
Increasing chipset voltages, RAM and FSB voltages.
Lowering RAM speed to just 650MHz with 5-5-5 timings.
Disabling C1E.
Lowering multiplier to 8x or 7x.

Nothing works! is there anything else i can try?

BUT i think it's my board, as it's a EVGA 680i SLI mobo, and i got it not too long after it came out, now i remember back then some 680i boards had crap capacitors or something so you could not go over 300x9 with Quads, but they fixed it later with newer board revisions. I'm guessing my board is one of these?? If it is, do ALL new 680i mobo's now have this problem fixed? 'cause i'll get a newer EVGA one if they have.

Hi there

Its very likely the motherboard, the NF680 chipset is very poor for overclocking with Quad core CPU's, the P35 is the best and the new X38 on the way will no doubt be better. :)

Only early REV was bad, there was review other day showing a later REV 680 going far beyond so called limits.

Cant remember is EVGA or Asus Striker E, do know the early EVGA had bad name for OC'ing esp on Quads.

Will you be getting X38 boards in anytime soon Gibbo? I dont know when they come out... just know it's not too far away.
And whats the best P35 board for overclocking quads?

HI there

Yes expect them mid-end September.

We have Abit and Asus along with Gigabyte. Asus Maximus looks real nice. :D

probably the board revision, but i had the same issue with a dual core, albeit a slightly higher clock b4 it gave up 1mhz higher, but i updated the bios and i could clock it much further..

have you tryed 410+ FSB? with low 6x multiplayer?

i heard there's a FSB hole with the earlier EVGA 680i boards

Just tried 420, and 440 FSB with 6x multi, will post but again wont load windows. It deff seems to be the mobo, it's completely stable at 299x9, but at 300x9 and anything over it just either wont post or load windows.

I was looking at the Asus Blitz Formula board (P35), is this one of the best for overclocking?

Cheers mate! dont forget :p

I used to have a P5WDH before this EVGA 680i, no way as good as the EVGA for OCing dual cores... shame my revision of the board sucks for Quads.
