Hey guys,

Really need a bit of help in deciding what to buy here. My situation is as follows:

I want to be able to do a lot of audio production, and a small bit of video production. I'd like to play the occasional game too, but nothing too intense. Now, one issue I have is that I need to be able to record using my microphone but the "hum" from the current PC is giving me problems. So either I need to get a low noise PC or get a normal volume PC AND some kind of silent 2nd box just for the audio recording part.

Processing power, RAM and lots of fast SSD hard drive (1tb+) space are important.

For budget, I'm quite flexible. Would £1,200 cover my needs? I have all the peripherals, monitors and windows etc already.

Really just don't know where to start with this... Plz help me :)

what i would get

This what i would recommend i record aswell and i have a similar pc and once you have the the fan profiles setup it gives you more than enough headroom unless your whispering into the mic in which case you should be using the polar pattern to get rid of the pc noise. the cpu is amazing no audio work will ever phase it and is good enough for basic 4k video work (dont expect it to be super smooth at 4k though) and any standard 1080 video stuff it will laugh at. The reason for the nvidia card is it slightly quieter than a 390 which is way better for the price atm so if you really want it to be quiet as possible go with the 970 otherwise save money buy a 390 and set up a silent fan profile for it in msi afterburner.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £1,213.54
(includes shipping: £14.70)

I agree with the build above except for the HDD. I'd get a WD caviar green. You won't see much performance difference and it is sooo much quieter!

You could go WD red, but the real life noise of reds is similar to green. For any quiet consumer build I always reccomend a WD green at whatever size you require.

The EVGA ACX 2.0 970 GPU is a good choice. Either that or the ASUS Strix 970, becuase both of these cards have their fans turned off at lower temps so they are compeltely silent when you don't need high performance.

If you're doing production work, particularly video, then avoid the WD greens. You will see a performance difference.

If noise is a concern just go SSD's all the way.

EK do an extended range version of their Vardar fan that drops down to 25% as well. I've got a set that throttle right down when I'm not doing any intensive work and they're absolutely silent.
