Hey guys - im looking for a new quad core cpu.
I currently have this model mobo: Gigabyte GA-MA770-DS3
now it says that it supports AMD Phenom quad cores.
What i dont get is it says its AM2 Socket and all the Phenoms are AM3.

On the website it does still say it supports quad core but its am2 not am3
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products...board&ProductID=2874&ProductName=GA-MA770-DS3

Please help! Could you please explain / link me a cpu that will work!
Thanks!

You first need to find out if your motherboard is a rev. 1.0 or a rev. 2.0.

If its a rev 1.0 then it does not support the new AM3 Phenom II CPUs and the max you coudl upgrade to is an original Phenom X4 9750 and although OCUK have recently got some older Phenom CPUs in stock (9850) they are also not supported, if its a rev. 2.0 however it does support the new Phenom IIs and Athlon II CPUs.

Ok ill check when i get home. I hope its Rev 2 as i only brought it around 6 months ago!!! Thanks guys. Do you think its worth staying with AMD or getting a new Intel mobo and processor? Ive got an ATI 5770 so itll perform better with AMD?

Ok it says Rev 1 on the side so i guess its the AM2 one from overclockers. Or do you think its worth upgrading my mobo and getting a 3.4 amd quad or going for an intel i5 or something?
