Okay, I have a HD 5870, it has 3 outputs on the back

2 x DVI
1 x HDMI

Is there any set up here where I can have all three running at the same time? or is this just, no.

Any chance of a picture of the back of your card? or a link to your specific card?

I'm not sure who it was or which model of the 5xxx it was but I know manufacture modified a card to include the DP adapter on the card itself.

If multiple monitors (preferable 3) running at once is your query.
You can only use the DVI connections (Both of Them, 1 for each display) or 1 HDMI as it's shared with the DVI ports as CraigN explained.

For 3 or more monitors, I reccomend buying a splitter, but it won't allow you to change whats on each screen really.

Sorry, but that's the way it is....

Hey, model is;
Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

Having googled it, the pictures all seem to have a DisplayPort adapter on the card, but i'm almost certain mine didn't, will confirm this at home tonight

If by chance it does have the display port, just grab an active displayport for DVI?

Cheers
