I feel like a 'tard asking this, but i've been out of computing for a while, and the last OS i used before buying this Vista laptop was Windows2k pro..

This laptop is: Core2Duo 1.73ghz, 2gb ram, ATi 1250 gfx, etc. It runs Vista Home Premium.

I've managed to avoid Windows XP largely on my PC's, BUT

Would i get the full functionality of this laptop using XP on it? I've heard Vista really slows down PCs and i'd like to see how fast this is with XP...

Dumb, i know.. but i dont know it so it has to be asked somewhere :p :D

i've got some.. um.. cut down versions of XP with a lot of the bloatware removed. I'm not much for hacked software but a mate of mine is, and he loves these cut down versions of stuff.. Might look at it, perhaps in combo with a new hd for the lappy - more capacity and speed :D

God this new stuff is confuzin... AMD64's are real 64bit... but Intels are 32bit cpu's that support 64bit instructions? WTF? eh?

both amd64's and intel core 2 duo have all the 32 bit instructions and the x86_64 ones, the intel itaniums where the only ones which where 64 bit only (ia64 i think?) but that was dropped because x86_64 is more convinient.

The trouble with laptops is that frequently they only have drivers for the OS with which it shipped. A friend wanted me to put XP on his Toshiba which came with Vista Home Premium and I was unable to do so since there were no graphics drivers available for it that would work with XP.
