Really dumb question - but i am a girl!!

I did post this in the windows bit but i think everyone is asleep, and im sure one of you clever people can help me!!

Im in the middle of writing something in microsoft word, but i must have pressed something and now when i go back and amend the document, it does the crazy delete the next letter thingy so if i type another letter the next letter gets deleted, if that makes sense!!

I know there is something you can do to stop it but i cant for the life of me remember what it is!!

Any one who can enlighten me I would be very grateful!!
