Really Had It With Creative!!!!!!

WTF is it with them. Their drivers are so buggy (if they even bother to release any in the first place).

Just downloaded an update from Windows Update and it has totally ruined the sound on Tomb Raider Anniversary & Tomb Raider Legend so you have to disable Hardware Acceleration otherwise you get a horrible popping noise. I had cured this a few weeks ago by removing all the creative bloatware then just installing the base drivers now it has come back again with this newest update.

Think my next sound cards will be something else which lacks any form of creative sound chip but what any suggestions on a good alternative which is also compatible with older DX9 games?

Good hardware, bad software and support, always the same, but DO NOT get drivers from WU, thats yourself tyo blame if you indeed mean you got a Creative driver from there, ever notice how Nvidia ones are not full featured (4 tabs instead 8 in Classic CP).

You should have used the auto update feature on Creatives site.

Best not to bother with drivers from windows update (unless there's no alternative that is), they're microsoft written drivers with poor performance and features and usually suck. Just get the latest ones from creative.

i did away with soundcards since i had my soundblaster live! 1024.. have used onboard sound ever since, and it has been more than adequate for music/films/games..

And now i appear to be doing away with that, as i have just ordered a set of logitech z-10's.. at a very attractive price too i might add :D... can't wait for them to turn up..

For graphics/sound cards I can't stress this enough, just roll back the driver and it 'should' be sorted :)
Tried to roll back but it cannot do it comes up with an error message!!

Usually I do not bother with WU but had a hardcore geek moment where I updated all my drivers and now its messed Tomb Raider up. Had the same problem a month ago but managed to fix it by downloading a driver direct from creative (known error to Eidos but they have chosen not to patch it as they say it is creatives driver causing the issue). NOw this newest creative update has reintroduced the error!!!

I know the hardware is good but the drivers have been appalling for many years all I want is a decent sound card which only needs 1 set of drivers and no bloatware instead of the constant battle with creative breaking things in their driver updates which fix something but nearly always break a game or 2!

I know exactly what you mean, Creatives drivers have been driving me up the wall for the last couple of months now.

Im tempted to just bin my sound card to be honest.

Could be worst, you could have owned a Audigy 2ZS :p , now that was buggy driver/apps, finally got it kind of usable with YourPax.

The X-FI cards have gave me less trouble.

One of the few, should have been on the Creative forums when it was new, esp if you tried to play back DVD-Audio, and general screaming like a cat getting strangled and this was not on a NF4.

If it was not bug ridden YourPax would not have made drivers/Audigy 4 hacked .ISO for it

Worst card I ever owned, and I skipped Audgy 1 as it was not true 24bit and lawsuit should have got all in EU back £40 if they ever did complain.

P.S, I'm happy for you the card was flawless in your findings, Creative would welcome you to the forums with open arms :).

Not sure what you're suggesting there, but I am telling the truth about my ZS. I've heard about the problems with some NForce4 board, but it's not all NForce 4 boards since I'm using one here (see sig). Never used the dvd-audio feature. X-Fi has it's share of problems too like the audio stuttering on high end systems, which is why I haven't bought one.

TBH I've never had any problems with any of my creative soundcards, whether that's Audigy 2 ZS, Audigy 1 (my old Audigy is working fine in my brothers PC now), my SBLive (still working fine in my parents PC), my AWE64 or SBPro2. They've all performed very well for gaming. Guess I'm one of the lucky few. Not saying there aren't people out there with real issues with their cards, but reading the creative forums would probably give a false impression of how many they number. No one is going to visit the creative forums just to say their card is working fine afterall.

As I said, I'm happy you are one of lucky few, Creative forums are full of idiots who flame others saying its the rest of their hardware or user error.

YourPax and ClassicLeon (later whom I know) proved otherwise with remix packs of drivers/apps from Audigy 4 .ISO

My Live 5.1 sounded better than all cards to follow it, the apps became so bad they ruined sound with all settings.

I got an A2ZS and its flawless in every respect.

However...

A couple of times now and then I have been in the middle of something and it kind of decides the hardware has gone awol?

The last time, it was as I took the headphones out of the livedrive... I was playing an MP3 and WinAmp suddenly froze?

I brought it back up and first track was a MidiFile and that started to play just fine, so I ghrabbed my MP3 list back up and then the message came up saying there was no hardware?

Midi = ok / Wave = No?

Weird?

I shut it down and restarted and its been fine ever since but it has done this once of twice before???

PC = DS3 / E6300 @ 400FSB / 4x1GB Geil
OS = WinXP64 SP2
