I have a really high pitched noise coming from my computer. When its off I can hear it but if I turn the power supply off, it stops. I hear it when I startup the PC but it eventually dies out.

How do I stop it? I'm pretty sure its coming from the power supply, is it going to break?

Sounds like the PSU is dying, common problem with Antec Smartpower PSU's. Most likely it will just stop turning on in a few weeks/days unfortunately, you will have to RMA it....

I have exactly the same issue with my OCZ Psu. I can hear the High pitch noise when my computer is off, but if I turn the PSU off the noise stops.
My PSU has always made this noise since I first bought it which was about 9-10 months ago and I've never had a problem with it.

After about 3-4 weeks of whistling, it is now giving off a burning smell that sprud* around the whole house. Should I go for a new PSU and be safe, or leave it and risk it exploding and frying other parts of my PC.

This is the 2nd PSU after the 1st exploded and destroyed the HDD.

*Past tense of spread.
