Really low 3dmark06 score - ideas?

Hi

Just installed my shiny new 8800gts 320mb and ran 3dmark 06 to see how much better it was. Old score (with x1800xt) was 4830, new score is 8557 (details here http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=2752685 ) which is better, but not as much as I'd have thought.

The strange thing was the cpu results, which were terrible for a C2D at 3ghz.

Now I know that 3dmark scores aren't that important, but the performance in games isn't as good as I'd hoped, as it was a pretty big (and expensive) upgrade to the gfx :(

So, any ideas what might be wrong or what I can try to sort it out?

Thanks

Really, surely it should be higher than that at stock though?

Out of interest, in 3dmark01 I get 38938 - I got 37369 with my x1800xt!!

Is ati tool the best option for overclocking?

When I had my C2D at around 3ghz and my 8800gts at stock I got about the same score (8500). When I overclocked the Graphics card I managed to get it up to 11000.

I find ATI tool the best for overclocking.

No offence, I meant mine should be higher, not yours ;)

Oh well, roll on Bioshock...

Dont worry, i was saying our cards should perform the same at that res and was assuring you that your scores fine as its the same as i got.

Thanks, at least it shows there's nothing wrong. That's quite a decent improvement too  ati tool here I come :)

3DMark01 puts a lot more weight on the CPU score, and memory bandwidth. Increasing cpu FSB on my old P4 rig used to add thousands to my 3DMark01 score.

To be honest, im not surprised that there is only a slight difference between an X1800xt and a Geforce 8800GTS320 in 3DMark01. Its a very obsolete benchmark.

Fair point, I just ran 3dmark 01 to see if it brought similar results to 06, which it did. I managed to run HL2.1 with everything maxed out though, so it's still good :D

Bring on Bioshock, Crysis etc....

cells - I thought I'd seen somewhere that people were getting about 15000 with gtx's? I was expecting about 11000 with my gts, but maybe I was expecting a bit too much.

Fair enough, this is overclockers after all :p

Any idea where there's an 8800 clocking guide? The search function is down.... or shall I just load ati tool and get on with it, I haven't used it for about a year :o

Excellent, riva tuner and ati tool both downloaded, I'll get on with it tonight.

It is a low hz lcd, some Sony 19" thing I 'borrowed' from my brother about a year ago :p

650/2000 would be nice, let's hope I can get it that high.

Thanks

15k  i wish :D

People aren't getting 15k with ultras...

i get 13k with my gtx at 660/2080, and my c2d at 3.8ghz...

that score is normal/correct... the people who get the "highest scores per hardware" are people who overclock to 5ghz and have to run it 20 times before it reaches the end without crashing.
