As I want to play Fallout 4 (out this November), I need to know if I can buy a quad core that would allow me to play this game? My pc has a mobo P5QL, with 4gig ram , so I will just buy 4 more ram and pop it in, but need to replace the cpu with something that will work for the game and would like to ask if somebody could help me out and let me know which quad would be best (was thinking of the Q9550 (will oc it))?

Which revision have you Pro, SE better the mobo helps with overclocking and yes you can run a Q9550.

Motherboard is just a P5QL (nothing else).

The main question though about the Q9550, is if it would be enough to run Fallout 4?

I can get a used Q9550 for £40, with 4 gig ram (new) for £25, so should be it then and not costing the world. Getting a bundle with an I7 & mobo is roughly £350, so I am not interested in spending that amount just to play this game.

That's fair enough :) Re; performance, there's a chart from Fallout 3, which is probably the best comparison you're going to find before 4 launches...

Suggests the Q9550 is basically level pegging with the Phenom II x4 that's listed for minimum specs. But if I remember right, those were decent overclockers - adding 10% on the clock would definitely put you in the right territory :)

ty..

Have Fallout 3 running well off an E7400 2.8, overclocked to 3.511 on 1920x1080
