Hey Guys,

I have bought my components from OC and put them together:

I7-4771 Haswell
128GB Crucial SSD
8GB Teamgroup 2400mhz ram amongst others.
Asus z87i pro mobo

I can access Bios, i disable secure boot etc. I have windows 8.1 on USB (flashed on via Rufus). This is a legitimate copy, i have also tried with Microsofts 8.1 Enterprise trial edition and get the same error.

OS install loads, i confirm my country etc, then the next screen it tells me "Media Drivers are missing". I am trying to load the OS onto the SSD (It's the only drive), has anyone encountered this before?

I am using a USB3.0 stick but putting it in the 2.0 slot to avoid no 3.0 dirver issues and still no luck.

Thank you

Is the SATA controller set to RAID or something? should be AHCI hopefully by default.

Definitely set to AHCI. When its telling me its missing drivers, the window that shows has an "X:\" drive with a file structure on it (my documents, program files, windows etc). Is this X:\ the SSD?

Wipe it clean, format/delete the partitions and start from fresh.

That is unless theres something on it you want to keep.

You can wipe it in 'drive options' screen during the windows install. Looks like the below in Windows 7.

You get a screen that says "upgrade" or "custom" pick custom and its on the next screen after that.

You should see a box with something like,

DISK0, partition 1
DISK0 partiton2

under the box are delete/format options, you highlight the partition in the box and nuke them all.

Them you should hav a single entry for DISK0 and under the box is a "new" partition option or "next" or something like that, click on next and it makes the partition for you and starts the install.

It doesnt let me get that far.
Asus screen loads, then Windows, asks for my country and language, i choose, click next and this next screen error boxes telling me their are "Media drivers missing".

I managed to format the SSD, seems the file structure is on the USB as part of the OS install.

Something wrong there, it shouldn't be asking you for the country until after it's got past all the drive options.

What ISO image on the USB are you using and how was it created?

I do the below:

1: Download your version version of Windows 7 from digital river
2: Use this to create a bootable drive create with the .ISO you have downloaded.
3: Set your motherboard to boot from that device.

ISO image is a rip form official Windows 8 DVD. Use rufus to then format the usb drive and transfer the ISO contents. Then motherboard recognises device and takes me to error.

Can you post some photos of your motherboard settings? It could possibly be something in there driving the request for drivers.

Its almost like the AHCI driver is missing from the Windows 8 image on the USB.

Did you think about saving a fiver and not getting a DVD Drive :p ?

Nothing wrong it does ask you for country before the drive options. It asks for Language to Install, Time and Currenct Format and Keyboard or input method. Think its the screen after Install / Repair.

Hey Guys, problem solved.

It seemed it didnt like using usb 3.0 sticks despite being in the usb2.0 ports.

I formatted an old 2.0 stick i had lying around and put it on there and voila, sailed through. Not sure if anyone else had this issue but worth keeping note.
