Really need some help.. losing my mind now :(

Making a thread in general because i have no idea what the problem is.. Starting to suspect motherboard but will see.

Setup is : Asus P5Q-E, Q9550, Geil 2x2GB PC-8500, Samsung spinpoint f1, optiarc dvdrw.

I am trying to install vista 64 and its pretty problematic.. All through the installation the dvd drive seems to spin up to do things, then back down again before waiting for ages before spinning back up and progressing.. Things like 'Expanding files' stuck on 0% for 10 mins and so on..

I have tried with an external USB dvdrw (Liteon) and that does the same thing..

Ive tried setting the sata to ide mode compatibility and also ahci and have the same symptoms..

Really dont know what to do now and need some advice how to try and sort this.. Has anyone had or come across something similar? Ive seen some similar posts through google with no real solutions..

Its normal mate, mines always took a while to install. Once it gets past the 0% expanding files bit its fine, as long as you can move the cursur youre fine and it wont have crashed.
 
Bit of an update from late last night..

I installed it again, using achi as i hadnt fully installed it using that before.. Took about 1.5 hours to install but did with no errors or anything..

I got all drivers installed, not had a chance to test a game yet as it was so late but there were no crashes or anything.. So i assume thing are okay now.. Still worried about how long it took to install windows but it managed to do the test thing and gave everything a 5.9 so i guess thats ok?

Ill try it tonight and see i guess..
 
glad you got it sorted - i remember installing XP on my original build and had fun with that.

reminds me of my first gpu too - an FX5700 (top of the range one) - played Farcry on it and it was lush!
