After the recent problem of my pc failing to restart or start up first time round i started a little trouble shooting. I tried removing my 300gb SATA and 1 stick of my Crucial ballistix RAM and my pc failed to start, i got the BSOD. AFter pluggin my HD back in the PC sometimes fires up onto the desktop so i decided to do a mem test which all that done was cause my ram to become very hot so when i exit it i get another BSOD. What concerns me is the fact that when the pc is starting up and i am forever switching it on/off all the time i noticed how HOT my ram was is this normal for RAM to become very hot even though you get no were near the Desktop?
I was also advised to remove the BIOS battery but after doing this its even harder to get the pc to start up.

Thanks for your help i am running out of ideas now :(

Download MemTest86+ and do some stress testing with it. If there is anything wrong with your RAM this should find it.

I don't actually know how hot RAM is supposed to be... My OCZ Platinums have shiny heatspreaders so I can't tell if they're that hot or not.

How much vDIMM voltage are you pumping through them? I think it should normally be 2.6V.

Hey, thanks for your help, I have never used Mem test before and i let it run for 5 mins and the perentage completed didnt even move one bit, it just sat at 0.0% is that normal? I also typed in to test 1024 MB instaed of all available RAM was that right too?

Hmm the percentage didnt move at all?

By default MemTest goes through a series of tests as soon as it starts and the first few tests are very quick... that percentage should have flown by. Just to be sure however press C and go through the options to chose what test you want to carry out and try test 3. This is also a fairly quick test and so should show some progress right away.

If that didn't work I think you may have some iffy RAM. Try MemTest again on each stick individually. If the percentage fails to move on both then it means BOTH stick are dead... or worse, something wrong with the slots on the mobo.
