While testing my dead psu, I unplugged the mobo, CPU and GFX connectors, when I tested the psu, I noticed a red led on the GFX card. This puzzled me as I had disconnected everything on the mobo. It was only when I accidentally pulled out the USB 3 header, the light went out.
Turns out there is a 12v feed to the Icybox multi card/USB reader on the front of the case. (Not sure why it needs 12v anyway) it appears to be back feeding through the USB header into the board. What is that all about???
Could it just be down to the duff psu or could the card reader be knackered too? Very odd...
