Really poor 3dMark Scores

I remember running 3dmark scores before I upgraded to vista and the extra 2gb of memory, and got scores just shy of 10k.

I've now got an extra 2gb memory, and running Vist 64 ultimate..My BFG 8800GTX OC arrive today. I ran 3dmark earlier before I swapped over the fx cards so i could see much better the new card would be..

To my surprise before I swapped over I got 4k with 7950GX2. Then with the new card I'm getting even lower scores 3419 to be exact..

I ran Crysis and chose the scan hardware and choose optimal settings, it scanned and it auto chose to run everything on high. Its was terrible, I didnt bother waiting for it to get to past the intro..

I've got the newest drivers, and setup is as in my sig except the new fx card..

Any suggestions of what to do or what to look at, what could be wrong?:confused:

from my experience vista cripples the 3dmark06 score. I can get around 17k+ with my spec (in sig) with XP, but around 16k with vista.

your results are crazy! I would have thought that with your 8800 GTX you could at least manage 10k+ in vista

I would make sure that all your drivers are installed and up to date. Perhaps try some BETAs?

I would also consider checking your CPU because 3dmark06 stresses this a lot during the test and your final score is based upon the benchmark results of that. This is also true for most modern games, CPU is used intensively for Crysis. People who overclock their Q6600 to 3GHz + gain quite a few extra FPS I recall.
So try running SiSoft sandra on your CPU and see where it come up in comparison to their benchmark results of your CPU. You might as well benchmark the memory and other things whilst your at it!

hope this helps..

PCI-E set to 16x I guess thats in Setup F2...I'll take a look, I couldnt seem to find it, in there..But I'll take another look..

Thanks, bb with the results

I went into Setup,

Only things I could really see was;

Video Configuration;
Primary Video Adapter, set too auto..Other options were Ext PciE Graphics (PEG)

Chipset configuration;

Pci Configuration: PEG Negotiatied Width 16..

I take it the negotiated width means 16x? This is a intel D975xBX, not the board with most options I recall...

It might be your psu not giving out enough power/going faulty(did a google and a lot of psu queries with a low 3dmark score) - and also have you tried it without the extra 2gb and seen if that sorts it out?

The best way to find out if your PCI Express is set to 1x is to download a little utility called CPU-Z.

I believe one of the tabs in there will tell you.

Right, I ran GPU-z, the memory clock is at 999mhz?????

I guess the first thing would be is to crank that up?

nvidia ntune?Rivatuner?

PSU is a 850W Enermax Galaxy...Only other thing could be the CPU, being a bit behind in the times..

Memory clock is fine. It's DDR (double data rate) so your GPU's ram is actually at 2000mhz like it should be.

That's a low score though!

I got a 3DMark06 score of 9331 with an AMD Opteron 165 and Overclocked 7950GX2 about a year and a half ago so something's up with your system.

Did you just swap them or have you re-run the forceware driver install?

I assume you are running 3dmark at standard res 1280 x 1024 and you have switched your settings over to performance in nvidias control panel?

Your 7950GX2 was too low at 4000 points anyway with a dual core Intel running at 2.6Ghz

I was getting over 3000 points with a Athlon 64 single core at 2.2 Ghz and a X800XT three years ago :eek: I think from memory when I got my dual core my results went up to 5000 - no way should that have scored a 1000 points more than your 7950GX2

My 3 Ghz dual core Athlon and a 8800 GTS 320Mb was scoring 10,500 points and AMD fair badly in 3dmark06 since it's so cpu dependant.

Yeah I think I messed that up to begin with, I just swapped them, then installed the new driver..Then uninstalled, then reinstalled...But still same performance...That was the score i got before with my 7950gx2, just shy of 10k...Gotta go for now, but try tweaking later when I get back..

Vista, installs the latest driver itself, which was the newest one..

The drivers are reporting the actual clock speed in the memory, not the double
data rate, or DDR clock. So there isn't a problem with the card, it's the
drivers that report the actual clock speed.

You have also gone from an SLI setup to 1 video card. You shouldn't see an
increase in performance.

Thank you,

Meh?:confused: Shouldnt I?

Still the 3k 3dmark scores are very worrying..Specially when before on XP with 7950gx2 was 9k

Well that person certainly doesn't know what they're talking about. :confused:

I'd do the following:

1 - go for a complete uninstall of the Nvidia drivers.

2 - reboot and let vista install it's own VGA drivers.

3 - reboot again and re-install a new set of forcewares.

Incidentally i'm using Xtreme G's 174.74 drivers at the moment and they seem fine with my GX2. I'd try something similar (not sure if i'd just go with the newest on the NV site just yet) and see how you get on. Your PCI-E speed is fine and your clocks are fine so something else is upset.

Tried allowing Vista to install its own drivers...So far..

Gonna try some beta drivers...I dont know, seems very strange..

When I play COD4 seems to be same IQ and FPS as before with 7950GX2, got a feelign its something to do with Vista tbh..
